PRESS RELEASE: January 2018

SCARPA F1 – FIRST SKI MOUNTAINEERING BOOT TO FEATURE THE RECCO SYSTEM

The new SCARPA F1 will be presented the very first time at ISPO Munich 2018. The new ski mountaineering boot comes with a RECCO rescue reflector, making the skier searchable to professional rescuers.

Available from AW 2018/19, the new F1 model from SCARPA meets the demand for increased safety by ski mountaineers. “The new version of the F1 will be the first boot designed for ski mountaineering to hit the market and to have a RECCO rescue reflector integrated”, says Marco Campagna, SCARPA Marketing Manager, who adds: “We are extremely pleased to have finally gotten started on this collaboration with this prestigious Swedish company – for SCARPA, safety is crucial. From here on, we can offer a technology that reduces search and rescue times for missing persons and avalanche victims to a minimum”.

The RECCO system contains of two parts: a RECCO rescue reflector, integrated into in sports equipment (in this case the boot), and a RECCO detector used by professional rescuers to locate the person wearing the reflector. The reflector doesn’t need a battery and is always “on”.

“We’re very happy to present our partnership with industry leader SCARPA”, says Johan Sauer, Vice President RECCO. “On the one hand, the partnership highlights SCARPA’s dedication to safety and, on the other, supports our efforts to expand the RECCO system’s areas of application. The partnership with SCARPA is another step to improve mountain safety, by making faster search and rescue of more and more off-piste riders and ski mountaineers possible”.

The SCARPA team will present the F1 boot to the public at ISPO Munich 2018 together with RECCO, who will be available to provide live demonstrations on how the technology works and its advantages. Hall A3, booth 214!

RECCO® is an avalanche rescue system utilized by more than 800 rescue organizations worldwide to facilitate the rapid location of burials. The two-part system consists of a detector used by organized rescue groups and reflectors that are integrated into apparel, helmets, protection gear or boots. Together they enable directional pinpointing of a victim’s precise location using harmonic radar but are not a substitute for a transceiver. Complementary in function, the system is an additional tool that does not interfere with avalanche dogs, transceiver searches or probe lines. The RECCO® system facilitates a faster organized search and increases the chance of being found in time. RECCO AB was founded in 1983 and is owned by its founder Magnus Granhed and the publicly traded investment company Traction AB (listed on OMX Nordic Exchange Stockholm). More info on: www.recco.com
